During the Apple event 2023, Apple unveiled the highly anticipated Apple Watch Ultra 2 and the Apple Watch Series 9. These latest additions to the Apple smartwatch lineup with a range of impressive improvements and features compared to their predecessors.

Apple Watch Series 9:

The Apple Watch Series 9 introduces a faster and more powerful S9 chip, delivering a remarkable 30% increase in GPU performance compared to its predecessor, the Watch Series 8. This substantial boost in processing power translates to noticeably smoother animations and transitions, enhancing the overall user experience. The Apple Watch Series 9 also supports NameDrop.

One of the most interesting addition is the Double Tap gesture. Using the built in gyroscope, accelerometer and the Neural Engine, the Apple Watch Series 9 can interpret your finger movements. Simply by joining your thumb and index finger together, you can initiate actions on the watch without even physically touching its screen. It can be used for picking up an incoming call, ending an ongoing call, initiate and control timers, stop alarms, scroll through windows, resume or pause the ongoing movie on the Apple TV and more.

The new Apple Watch Series 9 features a second-generation UWB (Ultra Wideband) chip, greatly improving the experience of finding your iPhone. With this upgrade, you can not only locate your iPhone but also see its direction, thanks to visual cues provided on the watch's screen. Additionally, the Series 9 employs vibration patterns that intensify as you get closer to your iPhone, making retrieval even more intuitive.

Furthermore, several existing features have been enhanced. Siri, the device's voice assistant, has been improved for better performance. The display, capable of reaching a remarkable 2000 nits of brightness, offers superior visibility in outdoor conditions. Conversely, it can dim down to a mere 1 nit, allowing for comfortable viewing in low-light environments. The Apple watch is expected to last up to 18 hours of battery life.

Apple has unveiled a range of new Apple Watch bands that are carbon neutral. Among these offerings, there is the innovative Sport Loop, as well as new bands from Nike and Hermès. These bands are crafted using a combination of recycled materials, and a significant number of them have achieved carbon neutrality, aligning with Apple's commitment to sustainability and reducing its environmental footprint.

The Apple Watch Series 9 starts at $399 and is available in two sizes 41mm and 45mm.

Its available in these colors:

  • Aluminum (Midnight, Pink Starlight, Silver, or Product (Red).
