Everything you need to know ab0ut the new Apple M3 iMac and Macbook Pro

Apple recently hosted its 'Scary Fast' event and introduced the latest M3 chip, along with the new iMac and MacBook Pro.

The new iMac maintains the identical appearance of the 2021 model and has a sleek design that measures a mere 11.5mm, courtesy of Apple's silicon technology. It is driven by the latest M3 chip, available in two variants: an 8-core CPU with an 8-core GPU option and a 10-core CPU with a 10-core GPU version. These configurations can deliver up to a 2.5x increase in performance compared to the M1 chip. The updated GPU introduces hardware-accelerated ray tracing and features a 16-core Neural Engine.


Furthermore, it comes equipped with a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display featuring 500 nits of brightness, a P3 wide color gamut, and True Tone technology. The iMac is compatible with 8GB of unified memory (configurable up to 24GB) and offers storage options of up to 512GB of SSD (configurable up to 2TB).

The 2023 iMac is equipped with support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, and it offers a range of connectivity options, including Thunderbolt 3, USB 4 ports, a USB 3.1 Gen 2 port, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt 2, HDMI, DVI, VGA, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The 10-core CPU variant also includes two USB 3 ports for added connectivity.


In addition, the 2023 iMac features a 1080p FaceTime camera and a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos support. It runs macOS Sonoma and is complemented by matching accessories such as the Magic Keyboard (with Touch ID enabled on the 10-core M3 variant) and the Magic Mouse.


Price and Availability:


The starting price for the new 24-inch iMac with the M3 chip is $1,299, and it will be accessible for purchase starting November 7. Pre-orders are now open! The iMac is available in a variety of appealing colors, including green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver.

The latest MacBook Pro lineup is powered by the new M3 chip, built on the 3nm process, setting an industry-first standard. This chip offers a remarkable 30% improvement in performance cores and a 50% boost in efficiency cores compared to the M1 chip. The M3 chip family supports configurations of up to 16 CPU cores and an impressive 40 GPU cores, marking a significant advancement. Notably, it introduces features like hardware-based ray tracing and the innovative Dynamic Coaching, allowing real-time hardware memory usage optimization. These laptops support up to 128GB of RAM and deliver up to a 60% faster Neural Engine performance.


The new MacBook Pro models feature a Liquid XDR display with a peak brightness of 1600 nits, offering a 20% brighter SDR content experience. They incorporate ProMotion technology for an ultra-smooth up to 120Hz refresh rate, a wide spectrum of 1 billion colors, and immersive Dolby Atmos audio.


The MacBook Pro lineup consists of three variants: the 14-inch model equipped with the M3 chip, the 14-inch and 16-inch versions with the M3 Pro chip, and the 14-inch and 16-inch models featuring the M3 Max chip.

The M3-powered MacBook Pro variant supports up to 24GB of unified memory and offers storage options of up to 1TB of SSD, which can be configured to a generous 8TB. On the other hand, the M3 Pro MacBook Pros can accommodate up to 36GB of unified RAM and provide storage up to 8TB. The M3 Max MacBook Pros come with the same screen sizes and can support an impressive 128GB of RAM.


The new MacBook Pro lineup boasts a remarkable battery life, offering up to 22 hours on a single charge, thanks to a substantial 100Wh battery. This is referred to as the "longest battery life ever on a Mac." It is bundled with a 140W USB-C power adapter for fast charging.


All of these laptops run on macOS Sonoma, which includes features like widget support, enhancements for video-calling capabilities, an improved Game mode, and much more. They come equipped with a 1080p FaceTime camera featuring an advanced image signal processor and support for a Hi-Fi six-speaker system with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos.


For connectivity, the MacBook Pros offer Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. The I/O ports include three Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports, a MagSafe 3 port, an SDXC card slot, an HDMI port, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Additionally, the new M3 MacBook Pros come with Touch ID, a backlit keyboard, and a host of other features to enhance user experience.


These laptops are also environmentally friendly, as they are crafted from 100% recycled aluminum, aligning with sustainable practices.


Price and Availability:


The base model of the new M3 MacBook Pro is priced at $1,599 and will be available for purchase starting November 7. Pre-orders are currently open on Apple.com. In addition to the existing Silver color, the M3 Pro and M3 Mac MacBook Pros are offered in a new Space Black finish. The M3 MacBook Pro is available in Space Grey and Silver color options.
